Bahrain Interrogates Twitter Users and Arrests One Over “Offensive” Tweets to MPs

Bahrain Mirror: The Al-Bilad newspaper, owned by Bahraini Prime Minister's son Ali bin Khalifa, said that the general directorate of Anti-Corruption and Economic and Electronic Security in the Bahraini Ministry of Interior began "interrogating owners of Twitter accounts about offensive tweets to the members of parliament and the elected legislative council."
The newspaper added in its issue published on Thursday July 9, 2015, that "a number of MPs filed complaints regarding tweets that include insults and abusive, offensive and degrading expressions. At once, the council's leadership referred these complaints to the competent administration in the Ministry of Interior to take the necessary measures in this regards."
"The competent administration in the ministry of interior has started interrogating owners of Twitter accounts. The users are from different villages across Bahrain and among them are people from both religious sects. One Twitter user was arrested and referred to the Public Prosecution," the Al-Bilad newspaper further stated.
