Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The authorities are expected to release the head of Shura Council of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society and former Bahraini Member of Parliament, Sayed Jameel Kadhem, on Monday, July 27, 2015 after he served his full 6-month sentence in prison.
The head of Al-Wefaq's Shura Council (the legislative council of Al-Wefaq) was arrested after being convicted over a tweet in which he spoke about the political money during the parliamentary elections organized by the authorities on November 22, 2014.
A Bahraini court sentenced Jameel Kadhem (January 13, 2015) to 6 months in prison and a fine of 500 Bahrain dinars which is the maximum sentence over a tweet (with the exception of the charge of insulting the King). On the day following the issuing of the sentence, security forces dressed in civilian clothing surrounded Al-Wefaq's office building in order to arrest Kadhem. He was directly transferred to the Dry Dock Prison.
On February 1, 2015, the court of appeal decided to release Kadhem and adjourned sentencing him to February 15, 2015, where it upheld a six-month prison sentence and a fine of 500 BD issued by a first level court. Thus, Kadhem was directly arrested after the hearing and imprisoned.
