Bahrain Mirror: The Saudi Asharq Al-Awsat Newspaper said that the Gulf-Iranian dialogue which Tehran announced will be launched on September 22 is "a Qatari idea that was warmly welcomed by Iran and the Sultanate of Oman, while 3 Gulf States expressed reservations about it."

The newspaper added that "the Qatari Minister of Foreign Affairs Khalid Al-Attiyah was the one who came up with the idea of launching a dialogue. He announced this during a meeting held recently for the GCC foreign ministers in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, and it is to be held on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next September."

"The Sultanate of Oman welcomed the Qatari proposal (without hesitation), pointing out that a dialogue between the GCC states and Iran will bring the views of the two parties close in regards to the pending issues in the region. For its part, Kuwait did not refuse the dialogue and seemed that it does not mind having it. As for Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, they had reservations about holding such a dialogue at a time Tehran is still interfering in the internal affairs of the Gulf States, in addition to its hostile policy towards its neighbors," the newspaper further stated.
