Bahrain Mirror: The Director-General of the Criminal Investigation & Forensic Science Directorate announced on Sunday (August 23, 2015) that the police had arrested a former Member of Parliament and member of Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society (Sheikh Hassan Isa) on August 18, 2015 after his return from a trip from Iran. He was arrested over charges of funding terrorism by offering money to fugitive terrorists and others involved in terrorist acts.

He claimed that the name of the former MP was mentioned in a number of terrorist cases, including the Sitra bomb blast on July 28 in which two policemen were killed. After the information was verified, an arrest warrant was issued, he further claimed.

The Director-General said the suspect received donations from various sources, including funds from participants in demonstrations, and distributed them among wanted fugitives.

Sheikh Hassan Issa was also accused of providing funds to a terrorist group and one of its members even though he was aware of their terrorist activities and helped cover up their crimes. He also provided shelter to members of the group despite knowing about its terrorist goals.

The Bahraini Interior Ministry is working on bringing charges of supporting terrorism and overthrowing the regime against prominent political dissidents, the last of whom was Ebrahim Sharif, the former Secretary-General of the National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad), over criticism he raised against the regime three weeks after his release, noting that he was serving a 5-year jail term.
