Bahraini Gov’t Determined to Lift Subsidies on Meat, Electricity, Water & Gasoline

Bahrain Mirror: Member of the joint Parliamentary committee assigned to review the redirection of subsidies and development of government revenues in the Bahraini Parliament, Ahmed Qarata, said: "The government told the committee members in its meeting with them on Tuesday (September 1, 2015) about its approval of a final deadline to uphold the decision to lift the subsidies on meat, based on the demand they submitted regarding the postponement of the decision's implementation until October 1st."
Qarata further stated that "the committee is still in the phase of collecting information from the government with regards to the subsidies issue and that the government told the Members of Parliament that it is determined to begin with this commodity (meat). Meanwhile, discussing lifting subsidies on electricity, water and excellent and good gasoline is to take place gradually."
According to the Al-Wasat newspaper, Qarata stressed that "the government will disclose the details of its decision regarding
lifting subsidies on meat within two weeks from now. Citizens will be allowed to apply for attaining the compensatory subsidies for this decision within two weeks too. We are currently looking into the information provided to us by the government with respect to this issue as we are also seeking to reach agreements with it."
