Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Bahraini activist and blogger, Ali Abdulemam, talked about his sufferings in Bahrain in a video interview published by The Washington Post.
The video included a brief about his life that spoke of his arrest and charges brought against him. He also talked about how he went into hiding and fled to the United Kingdom to write about human rights in Bahrain Watch, Global Voice and the Bahrain Center for Human Rights.
After briefly recounting his sufferings in Bahrain, Abdulemam said: "It is hard to live away from your country. You are building a new life while you already have your life back there in Bahrain. Your kids will learn a new language and they are always missing their family and relatives in Bahrain. They are always asking me: "When we will get back to Bahrain?" But the only memory they have of Bahrain is the tear gas burning their eyes. I dream that I will be back to Bahrain very soon."
The interview came within a lengthy report prepared by journalist Zoeann Murphy, entitled "What Dangers have You Faced While Reporting in Your Country?" Journalists worldwide risk their lives daily in the name of press freedom. He made interviews with 30 journalists and bloggers worldwide. The questions focused on the threats, attacks and dangers these people were subjected to.
This project is a part of the ongoing series examining the human cost of reporting the news around the world. It is conducted with the help of the Committee to Protect Journalists, Reporters Without Borders, La Maison des Journalistes and Global Voices.
