Bahrain Mirror: The International Bank issued the good governance indicators for this year that coincided with the United Nations summit of sustainable development to ratify 17 goals to achieve sustainable development over the 15 coming years (until 2030).

The 17th goal of the post 2015 plan is the same of the eighth one in "Millennium Development Goals" that lasted from 2000-2015. This goal was "enhancing the means of Implementing Global partnership and expanded global partnership for sustainable development" that included the necessity to adhere to good governance or good management.

As for Bahrain, this year has witnessed a rise of three indicators "stability, absence of violence and terrorism", "government effectiveness" and "quality of procedures;" however, Bahrain's indicators decreased in terms of "political representation and accountability", "rule of law" and "controlling corruption".

In comparison with last year, the national dialogue sessions held in Bahrain in 2013 raised its "political representation and accountability;" however, the same indicator decreased in this year's report.

Comparing Bahrain's indicators in 1996, 2002, 2011, 2013 and 2014, it is revealed that the indicator of political representation and accountability was the best after voting on the National Action Charter and that the political stability in 2002 was way better than the previous years.

However, comparing Bahrain to other similar states, being a small island near bigger islands, specifically Malta in southern Europe, Mauritius in the east of Africa and Singapore in the east of Asia, we conclude that Bahrain once again shows low levels of political representation and stability, whereas it competes in the other indicators related to government effectiveness, quality of procedures, rule of law and controlling corruption.

The World Bank issues the good governance indicators that cover 215 states worldwide. It measures the good governance or good management through following up the performance of the institutions and norms of the authority in each country.

The Bank lists 6 indicators for good governance: "political representation and accountability", "political stability, absence of violence and terrorism", "government effectiveness," "quality of procedures", "rule of law" and "controlling corruption".
