Bahrain Mirror: The crisis of lifting subsidies on meat in Bahrain continued for the sixth day in a row, as the butchers of Muharraq refused to receive slaughtered meat from the Bahrain Livestock Company. The Muharraq market remained closed. The Al-Wasat newspaper said that Salman bin Hindi, mayor of Muharraq, called the butchers for a meeting on Monday (October 5, 2015) to discuss the matter.
In the same context, the butchers of the Manama central market declared that they refuse to buy meat starting from today (Tuesday, October 6, 2015) after people stopped buying meat and after butchers suffered from great losses as a result of the decision.
It is noteworthy that the government's lift of subsidies on meat has led to a rise in the price of one kilogram of meat to more than 3 BD, which made people avoid buying it since meat products have become costly amid a decrease in wages.
