88% Decrease in Demand for Meat in Bahrain

Bahrain Mirror: The demand of butcheries and butchers in the Manama market for meat provided by the Bahrain Livestock Company, the only provider of fresh and frozen meat for the local market, has decreased from 800 slaughtered heads daily to less than 100 (about 88%), since the decision to lift subsidies came into effect in October, 2015.
The recession of the central meat market in Manama continues, except for a few customers who only bought small amounts of meat, according to what butchers have stated. For a second consecutive week, no orders for fresh Australian cattle slaughtered locally were placed since customers have boycotted meat products due to a rise in prices by 220%.
