Bahrain Mirror: Hanging pictures of Al-Wefaq Secretary-General Sheikh Ali Salman in the Bahraini capital Manama sparked the anger of security authorities which began making calls to take them down.
A number of activists received phone calls from the Interior Ministry ordering them to take down the pictures.
Shiite cleric Sheikh Mahmoud Al-Aali had delivered the Ashura eve sermon, which Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassem used to deliver every year before he fell ill a couple of years ago and which Sheikh Ali Salman delivered in his place last year.
Al-Aali denounced "the attack on Ashura manifestations by security forces," deeming these acts "part of a retaliatory political policy and provocation."
"Black flags, banners and posters that read Imam Hussein's words are guaranteed by the law and the people of Bahrain have been practicing this since a very long time ago," he added, stressing that "the ministry must put an end to such practices by security forces and hold those who attack Ashura manifestations accountable."
"The policy of oppression is sterile and will only produce more destruction," he further stated.
