Bahrain Mirror: Former Member of Parliament Sheikh Hassan Isa's defence lawyer Abdullah Al-Shamlawi said that the Public Prosecution renewed for the fourth consecutive time, on Thursday (October 22, 2015), the detention of Sheikh Hassan Isa for 15 additional days, although the investigations were concluded. It is noteworthy that Sheikh Isa's latest detention renewal was made on October 7, 2015.
For its part, Bahrain's main opposition party Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society said that "the former MP has spent two month and two days in prison. Pursuant to the law of protecting the community against terrorist acts, according to which he is being tried, he may remain in prison for 4 additional months before the commencement of his trial."
The local Bahraini Al-Wasat newspaper stated that, according to Al-Shamlawi, "Sheikh Isa is being detained pursuant to the law of protecting the community against terrorist acts which allows the prosecution to arrest him for 6 months before the commencement of his trial." Sheikh Isa has spent over two months in prison so far.
It is noteworthy that the Bahraini authorities arrested Sheikh Hassan Isa at the Bahrain International Airport on August 19, 2015, as he returned with his family from a trip abroad. The Ministry of Interior later said that Sheikh Isa was arrested over "charges of funding terrorism". Meanwhile, the prosecution said that Sheikh Isa received donations and distributed them among the families of detainees and "wanted fugitives".
