Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's High Court of Appeals commuted on Tuesday (October 27, 2015) the sentence of one of the two suspects accused of attempted murder of two police officers in Bahrain's Damestan to 15 years in prison instead of life-imprisonment.

Bahrain's first court had sentenced the suspects in this case to life imprisonment. One of the suspects appealed the sentence, whereas the other is still wanted for justice.

The Public Prosecution stated that the suspects on December 17, 2013 attempted to intentionally kill two policemen. The second suspect brought an explosive bomb and the two suspects planted it in the specified place to lure the policemen. As soon as the police officers arrived to the place, the suspects detonated the bomb aiming at killing the victims, which left them injured.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against the suspects since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
