Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Third High Criminal Court, presided over by judge Ebrahim Al-Zayed with the membership of judges Wajih Al-Shaer and Badr Al-Abdallah and Yousef Bou Hardan as secretariat, sentenced the former Bahraini Interior Ministry colonel Adel Flaifel to 10 years in prison after convicting him of possession of various arms and ammunition without permits, and also fined him 500 BD. The criminal court also sentenced 7 others in the same case (his driver and bodyguards) to 3 years in prison on the same charges with a 500 BD fine each and ordered the confiscation of the seized weapons.

Attorney-General Ali Bin Fadhul Al-Buainain had announced on November 12, 2014 that the prosecution has commenced its investigations. Meanwhile, the investigations of the Department of Criminal Investigations concluded that a person unlawfully imported arms and it issued a warrant to search the suspect's residence and him as well. After searching his home, they found a number of firearms and ammunitions.

This sentence is considered to be a first degree verdict; Flaifel can appeal to the Appeals Court and then to the Court of Cassation, whose verdict is deemed final when issued and cannot be appealed.

It is noteworthy that Flaifel's name was mentioned in many testimonies of dissenters in the 1990s. He is also one of the notorious figures accused of torturing dissent and this was documented by human rights organizations and UN commissions.
