3 Suspects Accused of Obtaining SIM Cards for “Fugitives” Sentenced to 3 & 7 Years in Prison

Bahrain Mirror: The third high criminal court presided over by the judge Ebrahim Al-Zayed and membership of the two judges Wajih Al-Shaer and Bader Al Abdullah and Youssef Bou Hardan as a secretariat, sentenced a Bahraini youth, 29 years, to 7 years in prison for using 45 SIM cards in manufacturing explosives and for the purpose of being used by wanted suspects. Two other men, aged 29 and 28, were given three years in prison for helping the suspect use identities of Asians to obtain the SIM cards.
Based on the grounds of the sentence, the court said that it was satisfied with the evidence and stated that the first and second suspects, on May 5, 2014, misused the aforementioned cards and illegally used them for a terrorist aim.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against the suspects since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
