Bahrain Mirror: The First minor criminal court, presided over by Rashid bin Ahmad Al Khalifa and Mohammed Maki as secretariat, sentenced a con man, who took 37,000 BD from a foreigner, to 3 years in prison. The accused deceived the foreigner into thinking that he would help him and his family members get Bahraini citizenships by forging signatures, stamps and cheques. The court also ordered the confiscation of the forged documents.
The Public Prosecution stated that the suspect in 2013 and 2014 was involved along with another anonymous person in forging the private documents; i.e. the 3 cheques, and that he used these forged documents (the cheques) being aware that they are forged. It also accused him of seizing the money mentioned in the documents while he was aware of them being forged.
Fraud cases linked to acts of deceiving people of being able to grant Bahraini nationalities to foreigners have significantly increased as the Bahraini government continues to grant tens of thousands of foreigners citizenship, aiming at making a demographic change for political reasons.
