Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's main opposition group, Al-Wefaq National Islamic Society, rejected the charges brought against former Bahraini MP Sheikh Hasan Isa over involvement in the Sitra bus bombing, which the Interior Ministry announced and claimed two of its officers were killed in the blast.
Al-Wefaq stressed that these are false accusations and far from reason, as Sheikh Hassan Isa is known for his peaceful role, adding that all these measures are retaliatory and raise doubts.
and is based on malicious procedures.
It highlighted that Sheikh Isa had gained the highest percentage votes in Bahrain when he ran as a parliamentary candidate in the 2010 elections. "He is well-known for his patriotism, has made efforts to maintain peace and stability in the country, and remained very distant from all forms of violence," Al-Wefaq added.
"It is reprehensible to treat a prominent national and religious figure and all the political prisoners as such starting with his arbitrary arrest to fabricating a case against him. The accusations are clearly driven by political-motives to distort the image of the peaceful national opposition and its figures after the government's failure to conceal the political crisis and evade the solutions to it, as well as trying to exploit the joint counter-terrorism surge.
Al Wefaq demanded the immediate release of Sheikh Hassan Isa and all political prisoners, stressing that the government is heading towards the wrong direction by complicating the political scene and moving further away from the solution that would achieve stability.
