Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Fourth High Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Ali Bin Khalifa Al Dahrani with the membership of judges Hamad Bin Salman Al Khalifa and Jamal Awad and Ahmad Al Sulaiman as secretariat, convicted 29 suspects whose ages range between 16 and 25 years old over the detonation of a bombing in Bahrain's Bani Jamra.
The court handed down terms ranging between 10 years in prison and life imprisonment with 30 additional years in prison for one of the suspects over charges of attempted murder of 2 policemen in bombing beside fence of Bani Jamra graveyard. It also stripped the nationalities of the second and the twenty eighth suspects as the second was accused of training the first on the manufacture of explosives for terrorist purposes, according to the last amendment of the Anti Terrorism Act.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against the suspects since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
