Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's Professional Fishermen's Association Secretary Abdul Ameer Al-Mughni stressed that 10% of the fishermen stopped fishing due to the decision to lift subsidies on fuel.

Al-Mughni explained that "according to the assurances of governmental bodies, this decision to lift subsidies wasn't going to include fishermen and bakeries. However, we did not find any such thing. We are still buying fuel with the current prices," stressing that "if the situation of fishermen continues as it is, they will be forced to stop working because of the high fishing cost especially in the times of scarcity of fish."

Al-Mughni also stated that the association held a meeting yesterday, and decided to address the Energy Minister Abdulhussain Mirza in order to be aware of the conditions of fishermen regarding the new decisions, and of the mechanism to provide them with subsidies.

He further said that the situation is unbearable according to the fishermen, the fuel cost massively increased, as fishing is not stable, which may expose the fishermen to losses in the seasons in which fishing is decreased. He also expected that many fishermen will tend to stop their work and not strike or protest. They will be forced to, as this job will not provide an income that would cover the fishing expenses.
