Bahrain Mirror: The head of Bahrain's Public Security Tareq Al-Hassan said that security forces have completed security preparations for securing the Formula 1 race, noting that the measures will not be limited to the perimeter of the race track in the Sakhir area only, but to all areas across Bahrain.
"Efforts continue to be made to maintain security and public order across the country," Al-Hassan stressed, adding that "the security efforts and services are not limited to the perimeter of the Bahrain International Circuit but will include all the areas across Bahrain, in addition to providing the land, sea and air ports in order to guarantee inclusive security."
The race is scheduled to take place April from 1 to 3, 2016. During the F1 tournament, pro-democracy protests are usually held.
Opposition groups consider that Bahrain exploits this international event to cover up its ongoing human rights abuses that it has committed over the past five years, and call on the organizers of the event to cancel the race, during which the security forces intensify their campaign against the opposition.
