UN OHCHR in "Rights Under Restrictions" Conference: Deporting Bahrainis after Revoking their Citizenships Raises Concern

Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Bahrain Forum for Human Rights (BFHR) opened its fifth international conference on Tuesday (April 29, 2016), entitled "Bahrain: Rights Under Restrictions-Freedom of Expression Peaceful Assembly and Right of Citizenship" at the Coral Beach Hotel in the Lebanese Capital, Beirut.

During the conference, the representative of the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Nada Darwazeh, stressed in her speech that there is still a necessity to make deep reforms, allowing citizens collective participation.

"The violations that the Bahraini authorities are committing from repression of freedoms, arrests of leaders of political parties and human rights defenders to unfair trials hamper the political process, civil peace and coexistence in Bahrain," Darwazeh further stated.

She highlighted that what raises the most concern are the decisions issued deporting Bahraini citizens after stripping them of their political and civil rights. "We see there are individuals, who contributed to building the nation and worked in its public and private institutions, that have been deprived for their housing, healthcare, educational, and social welfare rights. This and there are also consequences for stripping them for their families and children who are likely to become stateless in the future," added Darwazeh.
