Bahrain Mirror: Member of Bahrain's Special Investigation Unit (SIU), Abdulrahman Al-Mu'awda, said that the unit will now launch an investigation in the circumstances surrounding Ali Abdulghani's death, "while he attempted to flee arrest by police" after he was sentenced to five years in prison.
Al-Mu'awada noted that the Public Prosecution was in charge of the investigations after receiving a report on Thursday (March 31, 2016), stating that during the policemen's pursuit to arrest a convict in the Shaherkan area, he attempted to flee and jumped from a window and fell from the second floor to the ground, and as a result he was severely injured and admitted to the military hospital to receive treatment.
He further stated that the Public Prosecution inspected the site where the incident took place and listened to witnesses who recounted the events surrounding the incident claiming that he lost his balance and fell off the second floor while attempting to flee arrest.
"The Public Prosecution on April 4, 2016, received a notice announcing the death of Abdulghani as a result of sustained injuries. Hence, the case was referred to the SIU to investigate the incident," he added.
The SIU received a report on the measures taken by the General Secretariat for Grievances, regarding the incident, and its investigations are still ongoing.
