Bahrain Mirror: A statement issued by senior clerics in Bahrain stressed that "the detention of Sheikh Mohammad Sanqour is a blatant targeting of the Friday ritual and religious discourse."
"We condemn and reject this act that is estranged from religion, and the doctrine of The Prophet's household, whom Allah had imposed their love in his Holy Book," said a statement, signed by Ayatollah Sheikh Issa Qassim, Sayyed Abdullah Al-Ghureifi, and Sheikh Mohammad Saleh al-Rabiee.
The authorities had arrested Sheikh Sanqour (the Imam of the largest Shia Friday prayers in Bahrain), two days after a prayer attended by thousands of followers, following a four-week halt of both Friday and congregational prayers in Shia mosques across the country, due to extensive government measures adopted against the Shiite majority.
