Bahrain Mirror: The Bahrain Transparency Society called Wednesday (August 10, 2016) for canceling the requirement of having a personal interview, which was made up by the Ministry of Education as a new criterion for competing over government scholarships, noting that "there have been doubts cast upon the [government] for taking advantage of the [interview] results to deprive deserving graduates of scholarships."

In its statement, the Society stressed that there are repeated complaints every year filed by top-grade graduates with rates exceeding 95%. It further noted that it has requested in 2012 that the authorities issue a detailed announcement on the scholarships, names of graduates and their final grade rates, yet their requests were rejected.

Transparency considered that depriving these top-grade graduates from the opportunity to study the majors they prefer is a violation of their right stipulated in the Convention Against Discrimination in Education, adopted by the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
