Bahrain Mirror: A Bahraini court handed down on Thursday (August 19, 2016) a 1-year prison term to Shiite cleric Sheikh Ali Hmeidan. This is the first court verdict to be issued in relation to the open sit-in protest in Diraz.
Thousands of people are still rallying around the house of the Shiite spiritual leader in Bahrain, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, since the government revoked his citizenship, and tried him over charges related to the Shiite religious Khums ritual.
Many Shiite religious clerics face a fate similar to that of Sheikh Hmeidan, following interrogations over their participation in the Diraz protest.
