Bahrain Mirror: The High Criminal Court sentenced 6 defendants to 7 years in prison and another one to 3 years, fining him 500 BD. It also sentenced a defendant to a total of 9 years, abated the case against a "deceased" and ordered the confiscation of seized items.
The court accused the suspects of taking part, with other unknowns, in an assembly of more than 5 people and setting fire, along with other unknowns, to a number of tires for a terrorist aim, as well as acquiring Molotov.
The authorities say that it reached the suspects through investigation, explaining that the fourth suspect died outside the country.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
