Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini government warned on Thursday that the United States would be the loser from the US Congress's vote to override US President Barack Obama's veto over a passed bill, which allows families of 9/11 victims to sue Saudi Arabia.

On his official twitter account, Bahrain Foreign Minister, Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa said: "The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act is an arrow launched by the US Congress at its own country."

"Are there no rational people among you?" he stressed.

Bahrain is a staunch Western ally and is home to the US Fifth Fleet, yet "despite furious lobbying by both Riyadh and the Obama administration, Congress voted overwhelmingly on Wednesday to override the president's veto," noted the Middle East Eye.

It's noteworthy that the families of 9/11 victims had strongly campaigned for the said bill, as they are convinced that Saudi Arabia played a role in the historic attacks which killed almost 3,000 people. The families' certainty comes from the fact that 15 out of 19 attackers were Saudi nationals.

Last July, a number of US intelligence documents were declassified, showing official suspicions of links between the Saudi government and the attackers on 9/11.

As a result, the said declassification damaged relations between Washington and Riyadh, which were already strained after the US engaged in talks with Saudi Arabia's rival, Iran, the Middle East Eye website further highlighted.
