Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Fourth High Criminal Court, presided over by judge Ali Al-Dhahrani with the memberships of judges Osama Al-Shadhili and Wael Ibrahim, and Ahmad Al-Sulaiman as secretariat, acquitted 3 suspects of charge of planting a bomb in Budai, because the court was not satisfied with the evidence presented against the 3 defendants.
The Public Prosecution had referred the 3 suspects to trial after it accused them that on April 25, 2015, the first and second suspects, along with other unknowns, acquired and manufactured a bomb without getting a license from the Ministry of Interior, aiming at disrupting public peace and for terrorist aim. The prosecution said that the third suspect took part in the crime through inciting, helping and agreeing with the first and second suspects.
The court said that the prosecution presented the suspects for trial over the aforementioned charges based on a notice stating that a strange body is found in Budai Street. It was revealed later on that it is a real bomb. Investigations showed that the first two suspects manufactured a bomb and planted it in Budai Street to intimidate people for a terrorist aim.
Suspects are often convicted based on confessions extracted under torture and duress, which is the main reason that makes human rights organization challenge the judicial verdicts issued against activists and dissidents.
