Appeals Court Hands down 10-Year Jail Term to Defendant Accused of Assembly in Ras Rumman

Bahrain Mirror: The sixth high appeals court issued its first verdict, accepting the appeal in form yet rejecting it in substance, thus making the prison sentence 10 years, after the cassation court overturned it.
The high appeals court refused to consider the appeals of an a suspect who rejected his 10-year jail term, which made him resort to the cassation court.
The defendant was sentenced to 15-years in prison in absentia which made him refuse the verdict issued against him. Thus, the court sentenced him later to 10 years in prison instead of 15, over the charge of hurling Molotov on a car of a resident while assembling in Ras Rumman village.
The authorities claim that on January 24, 2014 that a driver in his car saw an assembly in Ras Rumman and was surprised to see a Molotov being hurled against him. The Molotov hit his car's door which burnt a part. The authorities claim that they reached the suspect through "interrogations".
The Public Prosecution accused that suspects of deliberately setting fire, along with other unknowns, to the said car, endangering people's lives and money for a terrorist aim, assaulting, along with other unknowns, the bodily integrity of the victim causing him injuries that need more than 20 days to heal. The prosecution also accused the suspect, along with other unknowns, of endangering the private transportation means, setting fire to a car aiming at disrupting the traffic, taking part, along with other unknowns, in an assembly of more than 5 persons for a terrorist aim as well as acquiring Molotov.
