Bahrain Mirror: The International Center for Supporting Rights and Freedoms demanded the Bahraini authorities to unveil the fate of youth Ali Al-Mokhawder who was arrested on November 24, 2016 at the hands of the security forces and held in the Criminal Investigation Department.
The center indicated that "the security forces arrested Al-Mokhawder after raiding his house and held him in the CID," adding that "he was not exposed to judicial parties, which makes his arrest arbitral and illegal."
Neither Al-Mokhawder family nor his lawyer knows anything about him. He only made a very short call to his family telling them that he is held at the CID.
It explained "the Bahraini authorities breached the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), which Bahrain has ratified in 2006, stipulating that everyone has the right to liberty and security of person. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention. No one shall be deprived of his liberty except on such grounds and in accordance with such procedure as are established by law. Anyone arrested or detained on a criminal charge shall be brought promptly before a judge or other officer authorized by law to exercise judicial power and shall be entitled to trial within a reasonable time or to release. Anyone who has been the victim of unlawful arrest or detention shall have an enforceable right to compensation."
The center reiterated its demand to the Bahraini authorities asking them to allow the visit of the UN special rapporteur on torture, whom the Kingdom has been refusing his visit.
In this context, the center called on the Bahraini authorities to consider paragraph 1 of article 9 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, stipulating that "everyone has the right to liberty and security of person. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest or detention. No one shall be deprived of his liberty except on such grounds and in accordance with such procedure as are established by law."
The center urged King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to issue his orders to the ministry of interior to guarantee the right in freedom, security and fair and just trial, unveil the fate of the youth Ali Hassan Al-Mokhawder and reveal the reasons behind not transferring him to the judiciary until now."
