Bahrain Heads to Abolish Labor Sponsorship System Next April

Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain is moving towards canceling the Kafala (Sponsorship) labor System, claiming it is trying to make right the situation of the labor market. It would be therefore required for the Labor Market Regulatory Authority to provide licenses to around 48 thousand foreign workers in the country, allowing them to work at any institution, company, or even individually, in accordance with law.
With this procedure, Bahrain is seeking to eliminate the violation of the labor system, the black market, and unauthorized work permits.
The Labor Market Regulatory Authority will initiate working in the new labor system in April 2017, and will grant work licenses for around 2000 workers per month. The system will undergo a comprehensive review within two years of implementation.
