Bahrain Mirror: Bahrain's high appeals criminal court presided over by judge Mohammad bin Ali Al Khalifa and secretariat of Naji Abdulla commuted the sentence of 6 out of 8 appellants convicted of burning 6 tires in Himla during an assembly which they took part in. The court lessened the length term of 4 appellants from 5 to 3 years. Meanwhile, it decreased the jail term of 2 others to 2 years instead of 3 due to their age.
The authorities claim that the appellants, along with other unknowns, assembled in Himla on the night of the incident aiming at disrupting public peace, endangering people's money and security and attacking policemen.
The protestors had Molotov and 6 tires as well as petroleum bottle. They set fire to tires using Molotov and hurled some against policemen.
The protestors then fled and one of policemen could catch the first and fourth appellants. However, another policeman could catch the second and the third appellants. Meanwhile, investigations carried out by a lieutenant proved the suspects from the fifth till the eight took part in the incident.
Since 2012, riot cases that go under the demonstrations and riot section of the penal code were adapted to apply to the terrorism law, if there were "terrorist" purposes behind them, such as attempted murder of a police officer, violating the provisions of law and endangering the lives of people and their properties, within the regime's framework of harshening penalties against protestors and activists.
