Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Court of Appeals amended the verdict issued against 4 defendants, from 10 years in prison to 7 years in prison, in a case linked to beating a policeman and burning tires in Bilad Al Qadeem area.

The Fourth High Criminal Court had ruled 10 years of prison against 8 defendants, and 3 years against 1, in a case accusing 9 defendants of assaulting a policeman and burning tires in Bilad Al Qadeem.

Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
