Bahrain Mirror: The Unitary National Democratic Assemblage and the Progressive Democratic Tribune demanded the Ministry of Justice to withdraw its lawsuit to dissolve "Wa'ad" society. They stressed that "Wa'ad" is among the national movement societies that played an important role in the Bahraini people's struggle towards independence.
In a joint statement, both associations said that they received with regret the news of Justice Ministry filing a lawsuit demanding the dissolution of the National Democratic Action Society (Wa'ad).
The statement added, "Wa'ad is a major component of the National Democratic Movement in Bahrain, and is an extension to the history of a national movement that played an important role in the struggle of the Bahraini people towards national independence, democracy, and social justice." They noted that "Wa'ad" had sacrificed a lot in this regard, and still represents a major component in the current Bahraini political scene.
"Therefore, demanding its dissolution is a fall back in national gains, and damages the principle of political pluralism in Bahrain, which demands the presence of an opposition in a national, non sectarian, agenda. This is like the one presented by "Wa'ad" and all National Democratic Movement societies," the statement went on to say.
Moreover, The Unitary National Democratic Assemblage and the Progressive Democratic Tribune reiterated, that this approach, to dissolve "Wa'ad", undermines the freedom of political action principle in Bahrain, guaranteed by the National Action Charter, the constitution, and law on political associations.
Both opposition parties called on the Ministry of Justice to withdraw its demand to dissolve "Wa'ad" society, ensure freedom of expression, and expand the area of political action.
