Appeal: Defendant Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison over Assembly, Weapon Acquisition in Diraz

Bahrain Mirror: The Supreme Court of Appeal amended a verdict issued against a defendant, from 10 years to 7 years in prison. The defendant is accused of attempting to kill a police officer, illegal assembly, and possessing weapons in Diraz.

The High Criminal Court had convicted 31 defendants with attempting to kill policemen, assembling, and possessing weapons. Among the defendants, 6 were sentenced to 15 years in prison for the charges of attempting to kill and possessing weapons, while 24 defendants were sentenced to 10 years for charges of participating in illegal assembly and possessing Molotov cocktails. The court issued a 5-year prison verdict against the only defendant who is under 18 years old.

The Public Prosecution convicted the suspects because on July 23, 2013, along with other unknowns, deliberately attacked and deliberately attempted to murder 3 police officers. They were also charged of possessing weapons, and endangering people's lives and money and for a terrorist aim, took part, along with other unknowns, in an assembly of more than 5 persons aiming at disrupting public peace and endangering people's lives and money and acquired Molotov.
