Bahrain Mirror: Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Humaidan stressed that over 7000 Bahrainis retired in 2016 due to what he called "rumours about changing retirement benefits".

A news agency had indicated that the government intends to amend the retirement system, including raising the retirement age and installing severance pay.

Humaidan explained in a talk forum that "the number of Bahrainis who retired in 2016 was much more than the regular number (...) it reached about 7000 Bahrainis, 3700 of whom from the private sector and slightly more than 3000 from the public sector."
