Bahrain Mirror: Sources said that Mercury Construction Company has not paid wages for its employees since 6 months. Mercury Construction is considered the second largest construction company that fails to pay its employees' wages after G.P. Zachariades Company that is still incapable of paying its employees' wages due to the government parties', especially Bahrain, failure to pay their dues.
The president of bar association of Mercury Construction told the Al-Bilad daily on May 30 that the company failed to pay the wages of its employees for a period that reaches about 6 months.
Yousif Ibrahim, president of the bar association, said that the union administration met the executive director in a previous time and agreed to solve the salary problem before the month of Ramadan.
He noted that the company sent emails to its employees in April and sent a copy of it to the undersecretary of the Ministry of Labour and Social Development, promising them to pay all the overdue wages.
Ibrahim indicated that this problem started to have bad effects on the workers, as some of them were fired from their houses and others' cars were taken. Besides, some of the workers were held legally accountable for not paying their obligations to the banks.
He further stated that foreign workers are suffering now from lack of food because restaurants are not providing them with meals.
