Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Women Union receives tomorrow Thursday Khawla Mattar, United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), in a meeting entitled "The Brave Bahraini Woman in Conflict Zones".
Mattar, who has received the UN Secretary-General Award for Courage, will talk about her humanitarian experience in conflict zones throughout her 2-years deployment in Syria. During her time in Syria, she moved around besieged areas and zones controlled by insurgents, to help the access of humanitarian aid to those areas. She also played a role in the political process in Syria.
It's worth mentioning that Khawla Mattar was able to enter Darayya after 5 years of imposed blockade to allow aid into the area for its residents.
Mattar has won the Award for courage after competing with 4 other candidates.
