Bahrain Mirror: The Shura Council approved on Sunday (July 9, 2017) a Decree Law to suspend pension benefits for those whose citizenships are revoked, and raised the approval to the King to be ratified.
The decree provides the suspension of the retiree whose citizenship was revoked, or in case he was naturalized in another country without any permission from competent authorities in the Bahrain Defense Force, in cases linked to military and ex-military personnel.
Moreover, the Council said that the decree aims at filling the legislative vacuum after the issuance of some judicial decrees and provision to revoke the Bahraini citizenship. This comes in addition to proof that a number of citizens, whether retired military or civilians, were naturalized in other countries while living there. On this level, the Shura Council believed that there is no justification as to why these individuals should continue to benefit from the social support systems in Bahrain.
