Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): Mass demonstrations were held in Al-Daraz and different areas across Bahrain Thursday night (September 7, 2017), in protest of the siege imposed on the Diraz region and the house arrest of the Bahraini Shiite majority's spiritual leader, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim.
According to activists, Bahraini security forces cracked down on a number of marches and demonstrations, particularly in Diraz and the island of Sitra. At least one demonstrator was reported injured by shotgun pellets in the village of Abu Saiba, near Diraz.
Activists had called for a mass rally in Diraz, in protest of the house arrest imposed on Ayatollah Qassim, as security forces have recently intensified their security presence in the town. In response, dozens of citizens took part in marches, which government forces met with tear gas, flooding the area with toxic smog.
Protests were also staged in Barbar, Abu Saiba, Shakhoura, Sar, Karzakan, Sitra, Jidhafs, Daih, Maamir, Al-Ekr and elsewhere in the island kingdom.
Demonstrators called for lifting Ayatollah Qassim's house arrest, punishing the killers of the martyrs, and putting an end to the ruling Al Khalifa family's monopoly over power.
