Bahrain Mirror: The Public Prosecution interrogated on Sunday (September 17, 2017) human rights activists, charged them with assembly and confirmed the issuance of a travel ban decision against them.

Bahrain Center for Human Rights member, activist Ahmad Al-Saffar, said that the authorities interrogated him after 3 hours of waiting, explaining that the prosecution accused him of "assembling in Diraz and chanting political slogans". Al-Saffar said that he was told he is banned from traveling.

For her part, head of the monitoring and documentation unit at the Bahrain Center for Human Rights Enas Oun said that the prosecution interrogated her after 3 hours of waiting, charged her with assembly and taking part in an anti-regime protest in Diraz on May 21, 2017. She was also told she is prevented from traveling.

The authorities in Bahrain penalize activists with travel bans, so they would not be able to participate in international events, especially the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions held in Geneva.

During the opening of the UNHRC 36th session on Monday (September 11, 2017), the High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad Al Hussein criticized the Bahraini authorities' severe restrictions imposed on civil society and political activism through arrests, intimidation and travel bans.
