Activist Farida Ghulam Summoned for Interrogation Tomorrow

2017-09-20 - 4:18 am

Bahrain Mirror: The security authorities summoned central committee member in National Democratic Action Society Wa'ad Society, Farida Ghulam, for interrogation tomorrow (Wednesday, September 20, 2017).

The subpoena Ghulam received didn't mention the reason behind the summons. However, it is believed that it is related to raising charges against activists to justify the travel ban imposed on them.

Ghulam is the wife of prominent opposition leader Ibrahim Sharif. She participated previously in the UN Human Rights Council sessions among the Bahraini civil delegation.

The authorities in Bahrain penalize activists with travel bans, so they would not be able to participate in international events, especially the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions held in Geneva.

During the opening of the UNHRC 36th session on Monday (September 11, 2017), the High Commissioner for Human Rights Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad Al Hussein criticized the Bahraini authorities' severe restrictions imposed on civil society and political activism through arrests, intimidation and travel bans.
