Bahrain Mirror: The Sixth High Appeals Court upheld the imprisonment of a convict out of 8 convicts accused of assembly and arson in Sadad. The court sentenced him to 3 years in prison over the charges brought against him.

The other 7 convicts had already appealed the verdict issued against them that sentenced 4 of them to 3 years in prison and the 3 others to one year, fined the first suspect 100 BD over acquiring "iron box" and ordered the confiscation of seized items.

The first instance court said that the convicts along with about 13 other unknowns acquired a number of tires, petroleum bottle and headed to a roundabout in Sadad area. They put the tires and burnt them. Investigations led to the identities of the perpetrators.

The court convicted all the suspects because on 9/10/2015 they, along with other unknowns, deliberately set fire to movables, aiming at putting people's lives and money to danger and for a terrorist aim, took part in an assembly of more than 5 persons aiming at disrupting public peace, noting that they used violence to achieve the aim they gathered for and put public transportation to danger.

Since 2012, riot cases that go under the demonstrations and riot section of the penal code were adapted to apply to the terrorism law, if there were "terrorist" purposes behind them, such as attempted murder of a police officer, violating the provisions of law and endangering the lives of people and their properties, within the regime's framework of harshening penalties against protesters and activists.
