Bahrain Mirror: The Sixth High Appeal Court upheld the 15-year prison verdict against 5 defendants convicted among 7 defendants accused of attempting to murder a security officer while taking part in National Day festivities. They were also accused of burning his car with Molotov cocktails near Karzakan roundabout for terror purposes, assembling, rioting, and possessing flammable tools. The defendants were imposed to pay a sum of 10,000 Bahraini Dinar in compensation for damages.
Human rights organizations challenge the charges raised against political detainees, since they doubt the independence of the judiciary, whose members are assigned by royal decrees, and since it issues sentences based on confessions extracted under duress and evidence presented by secret investigations and anonymous witnesses.
