Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Bahraini security authorities released eulogy reciter Mahdi Sahwan on Saturday (October 7, 2017), after serving 6 months in prison for participating in the Diraz open sit-in.
The public prosecutor's office accused Sahwan of "illegal assembly" over his participation in the sit-in that was held in the Diraz area in solidarity with the spiritual leader of Bahrain's Shiite majority, Ayatollah Sheikh Isa Qassim, following the revocation of his nationality.
On 12 April, an appeals court upheld a verdict sentencing Sahwan to prison. He was arrested from the courtroom and transferred to Jaw Prison to serve his sentence.
