Court of Appeals Adjourns Case of Sheikh Hasan Isa and Others until Oct. 22 for pleading

Bahrain Mirror: The Fifth High Criminal Appeals Court postponed the case of Al-Wefaq leader Sheikh Hasan Isa and others to October 22 for pleading.
The first instance court issued death penalty verdict against two of the defendants, whole-life sentences against 5 revoked the citizenships of the 8 defendants. The court also sentenced 5 suspects including (Al-Wefaq leader Sheikh Hasan Isa and leader in Al-Wafa'a party Sayed Mortada Al-Sanadi) to 10 years in jail and fined each of Al-Sanadi and Isa 100000 BD. In addition, the court handed down 5-year jail term to a defendant, 3-year jail term to 2 others and 6-month jail term to 3 defendants. Meanwhile, it acquitted the seventh and fourteenth suspects and ordered the confiscation of seized items.
The court bound the suspects from the first till the sixth along with the ninth suspect to pay 14000 BD for the damages caused to Gernata Elementary school and 5240.800 BD for the damages caused to police bus.
The authorities accuse Sheikh Hassan Isa of providing financial support to a "terrorist group" claimed to be involved in Sitra blast that killed two policemen. Meanwhile, human rights organizations say that the case is politically motivated and the confessions are extracted under torture.
