Bahrain Mirror (Exclusive): The Bahraini government has allocated more than 68 million dinars to the National Security Apparatus (NSA), which is involved in serious human rights violations, according to reports by Bahraini human rights organizations.

The government had allocated 34 million and 116,000 dinars to the NSA for each year, pursuant to the state budget law for the fiscal years 2017-2018.

Three Bahraini human rights organizations have confirmed (August 2017) the involvement of the NSA in the systematic use of torture.

For decades, Bahrain's National Security Apparatus has been one of the government agencies seeking to stop protests demanding putting an end to the ruling Al Khalifa family's monopoly over power.

Americans for Democracy and Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) presented on October 12, 2017 a report to the Human Rights Council on the NSA.

The HR organization said that Bahrain failed to observe human rights while combating violent extremism, stressing that the NSA's return to a central role in Bahraini counter-terror policing is deeply disturbing and underscores the government's disregard for human rights.

ADHRB called for repealing the 2006 anti-terror law, which the NSA uses to target activists and arrest peaceful citizens.

The Bahraini King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa has revoked the NSA's authority to arrest citizens based on the recommendations of the Bahrain Independent Commission of Inquiry report, yet restored it early this year.
