Bahrain Mirror: Pursuant to a royal decree issued on Sunday (October 29, 2017) by King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the head of the National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) Saeed Mohammed Al-Faihani, was appointed by decree as an ambassador at the Foreign Ministry's General Office, which means he has been dismissed from his former post as head of the NIHR.
This is dismissal is considered an official admission of the state's failure in the human rights field, after Bahraini human rights organizations, especially those operating abroad, managed to del blows to the regime with regards to the human rights issue, underlying the existence of a real crisis between the Bahraini regime and the United Nations Commission on Human Rights.
There were conflicting reports about who will succeed Al-Faihani as president of the Institute, which has so far failed to achieve any progress in the human rights field as well as lift any injustice depriving citizens of their rights due to the brutal security policies adopted by the security authorities and practiced against pro-democracy activists in Bahrain.
Among the conditions required to be appointed as members of the Board of Commissioners of the National Institute for Human Rights, in accordance with a royal decree, is not to be affiliated with any political society, except members of the legislative authority who have the right to debate without voting, have higher education qualification, speak one of the of the official languages of the United Nations in addition to the Arabic language for the full-time member. Those appointed from civil society organizations, trade unions and syndicates should have at least served two years of membership, and those appointed from academic institutions should be at least an assistant professor. A member should also have substantial contributions in the field of human rights.
