Bahrain Mirror: The United States urged its ally Bahrain to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into allegations that three members of Activist Sayed Ahmad Alwadaie's family gave confessions extracted under duress.

US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a press briefing (October 31, 2017) that the United States is certainly aware that London-based human rights activist Alwadaie was sentenced to three years in prison along with some family members who are living in Bahrain.

Nauert further stated that Alwadaie "alleges that the convictions on the part of the Bahraini Government were reprisals for his activities in London."

"I can't personally confirm that. But we understand that there are also allegations that he confessed under duress," she added.

Concluding her comments, she said: "We urge the Bahraini authorities to investigate allegations thoroughly and also impartially. And I just don't have anything more for you on that."
