Bahrain Mirror: The Bahraini Court of Appeal upheld on Wednesday (November 22, 2017) the death sentence issued against detainee Hussein Marzouq, who was accused by the authorities of being behind a bombing that resulted in the death of Fakhriya Muslim.

Marzouq denied the charges raised against him and his family has stressed that his confessions were extracted under torture.

The court upheld a life sentence against another defendant and sentenced 7 others to 3 years imprisonment.

The incident that led to the death Fakhriya Muslim (June 30, 2017) was mysterious before the authorities arrested a group of people and accused them of being behind the incident.

Martyr Hassan Al-Hayeki (one of the defendants in the case) died in prison as a result of torture and medical negligence.

Before his death, Al-Hayeki reported being chained for five days and severely beaten during interrogation, and that the beatings were focused on his head and sensitive areas of his body, forced to confess the charges raised against him.

The martyr told his family that he was transferred multiple times to the Public Prosecutor's Office to sign confessions but that the first time he was unable to speak due to the intensity of the fatigue he suffered and the second time, he did not accept to sign the confession which led to further torture.
