Bahrain Mirror: The First High Appeals Criminal Court upheld a 3-year jail term verdict against defendant accused of assembling and arsoning 6 trash cans.
The first-instance court had already sentenced 3 suspects to 5 years in jail and 7 others to 3 years due to their young age.
In its ruling, the court stated that in view of the circumstances of the second, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth and tenth defendants, being under 18 years old when committing the crime, it reduced their sentence pursuant to articles 70 and 71 of the Penal Code.
The authorities claim that Al-Nuaim police station received a notice stating that an assembly is staged in Mukharqa village. The police rushed to the scene and saw about 30 protestors blocking the road with 6 trash cans that were set to fire. The authorities used force with the protestors who hurled Molotov against the forces and fled. As a result, a civilian car was damaged.
The authorities claim that they reached the suspects through investigations.
The prosecution accused the suspects of deliberately setting fire, along with other unknowns, to movables, on 4/5/2014, that would put people's lives and money to danger and taking part, along with other unknowns, in an assembly of more than 5 persons, noting that they used violence to achieve the aim they gathered for. It also accused them of acquiring Molotov, aiming at using them to put people's lives and money to danger.
